Creating a character. Using it at the table.

Start with an idea in ordinary words: who your character is, how they approach an adventure, or the kind of magic they use. AI helps interpret your idea and choose options; our rules-based software assembles the character from supported 2024 SRD options and runs automated checks before producing your sheet. You can name choices you already know, or let your idea guide the choices. Review the result before taking it to your table.

Genesis costs $0.99 USD. You authorize the payment before generation; it may appear as a pending card hold. We charge only after you choose Keep and both PDFs have been checked and are ready for delivery: a printable character sheet and a reference PDF for that same character. Companion is a separate purchase.

Yes. One successful fresh revision is included before you keep and unlock your PDFs, during the 48-hour creation window. A failed revision does not use it up, and fixing an error on our side does not count as your revision. Your last successful character stays available if the revision fails.

Genesis uses supported character options from the 2024 SRD (5.2.1), the open rules reference for fifth edition. That does not include every option from every book or homebrew system. If your idea needs a choice outside the supported options, it may need to be adjusted. Discuss the character with your game group before play.

Save your private purchase link. You do not need an account to return to it, and it gives you one year of access to your delivered PDFs. Anyone with the link can access the purchase, so keep it private. Downloaded PDFs are yours to keep and use offline after that year ends.

Companion is an optional app for using your character during play: roll dice, track resources, and consult key abilities. It costs $3.99 USD, separately from Genesis, with one year of hosted access and an offline file to keep. You can buy it for your kept Genesis character, or upload an existing character sheet. Your Genesis PDFs work on their own.

Use your fifth-edition character sheet as a PDF in the standard sheet layout, with abilities, skills, attacks, and features. Other layouts and game systems are not supported. Bring only a sheet you have the right to use. You do not need to purchase Genesis to use the Companion upload path.

Yes. Download your Genesis PDFs to read or print them. Download your Companion as a single HTML file and open it in a browser to use it offline. Creating the files and opening their hosted links require a connection.

If a build fails, you’re not charged. A card authorization is a hold, not a completed charge; releasing it can take time to appear at your bank. For a Genesis revision that fails, your last successful character remains available to keep. If you need help, contact support@playrest.app.

Two different clocks: your uploaded sheet is deleted within 48 hours, always. Your finished companion link works for 12 months from the build — and the file is yours to download and keep forever at any time.

No. Playrest is an independent tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any game publisher. It is a play aid, not a replacement for your rulebooks or your group’s decisions. Open-licensed reference material is attributed; see Open licenses.
